Longarm Quilting Service Preparation Guide

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns about the following details:

When packing your quilt top, backing and/or binding to bring for longarm quilting, please be certain that no lingering smoke or pet fur remain, out of consideration for both the longarm machine and the quilter, who has significant allergies.

Please clip threads and press your top.

Backing should be at least 8” wider and longer (4" on each side) than the quilt top. For example, if your top measures 70’ x 80”, the backing must measure 78” x 88”. This is to allow for loading onto the frame and side tension clamps. Please use 0.5” seams in backing if possible, and keep in mind that a seam offset from the center will be stronger over time. Please press your backing.

Four Friends and Fabric provides 90” wide cotton batting at a cost of $8/yrd. Batting other than the available 100% cotton will only be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Four Friends and Fabric provides a new needle and all of the thread needed for your quilting project for a $5 fee, with exceptions made only on a case-by-case basis.

If binding services are chosen, binding strips should be cut in 2” wide strips with a length of at least 10” longer than the total perimeter of the quilt top. If you do not have a rotary cutter and mat, please bring appropriate yardage and I will cut the binding strips for you.
